Instructions for using Jasper's Tome.
Jasper's Tome User Guide
Use the Help button in the top navigation from any page to return to this guide.
Getting started
- Sign in with your account.
- Choose Campaigns, Notes, Characters, or Spells from the top navigation.
- Changes are saved to your account. Campaign content is visible only to members of that campaign unless an administrator changes access.
Groups
Groups are an additional visibility layer. If you belong to several groups, you see the combined content assigned to any of them. Items marked All groups are visible regardless of membership, subject to existing campaign membership, ownership, and file-permission rules. When groups exist, user pickers show your own account and members of groups you share; administrators in the All groups view can see everyone.
Administrators can open Groups in the navigation to create a group, assign users to one or more groups, and assign campaigns, characters, spells, maps, files, or folders to one or more groups. Uncheck all group boxes on an item and save to make it available to All groups. Existing items start with this setting. A folder restricts all files inside it; schedule entries and timeline events inherit their campaign's groups, map markers inherit their map's groups, and character spells inherit their character's groups.
Administrators can use the All groups dropdown in the top navigation to switch to one group at a time. This changes what they see, not their memberships or the underlying permissions.
Campaigns
Campaigns keep the group's schedule, responses, and history together.
- Open Campaigns to see the campaigns available to your account.
- Select Schedule on a campaign to view proposed sessions and record your availability.
- Select Timeline to review the campaign history.
- Use My Schedule to see sessions across all of your campaigns.
Timeline events use activity icons to make story beats easy to scan. Choose icons such as Fight, Adventure, Travel, Discovery, Rescue, Camp, or Celebration when creating or editing an event.
Moving several events at once
If the party's history shifts — a retcon, a long rest you forgot to account for, or a campaign that turned out to start a year earlier — you can re-date a whole group of events in one step instead of editing each one.
- On the Timeline, select Select Events. A checkbox appears on every event you are allowed to edit.
- Tick the events you want to move, or use Select all shown to take everything that matches the current category and search filters.
- Enter how far to move them and choose Days, Months, or Years.
- Select Later to push the selection forward in time, or Earlier to pull it back.
Events keep their spacing relative to each other, and an event that spans a range of dates keeps its original length. Moving by months or years keeps the same day of the month, falling back to the last day when the destination month is shorter. A move is undone by moving the same selection the same distance in the opposite direction.
Events you do not have permission to edit are reported as skipped rather than moved. Select Select Events again to leave selection mode.
Campaign administrators can use Manage Campaigns to create campaigns and maintain membership. If a campaign is missing, ask an administrator to add your account.
Notes
Notes are files and folders rendered as a browsable knowledge base.
- Select a file in the left sidebar to preview it.
- Use Create Note or Upload Files at the bottom of the sidebar to add content.
- Use a file or folder's menu to rename, move, edit, or delete it when you have permission.
- Use the search box to search file names and note content.
- Select Edit while viewing an editable file to change its raw text, then select Save.
Linking notes
Create a wiki-style link with [[Note Name]]. Selecting the rendered link opens the matching note. Keep note names distinct when possible so links resolve predictably.
Maps in notes
Paste this template into a .md file and place a map image beside it. Only id is required.
# My Map

height: 600px
bounds: [[0, 0], [3000, 4000]]
minZoom: -3
maxZoom: 3
defaultZoom: -1
zoomDelta: 0.5
```
idmust be unique across all maps because it identifies which map owns each marker.imageaccepts a[[wiki-link]]or plain filename. You can omit it and use Change image in the map toolbar.boundsis the image pixel size in the form[[0, 0], [height, width]]. Omit it to measure the image automatically.- For a real-world map, omit
imageandbounds, then addlat,long, anddefaultZoom. You can also providetileServer. - Add
marker: type,lat,long,link,descriptionlines to import editable pins the first time the map opens.
Characters
The Characters page separates characters you own from other characters shared through your campaigns.
- Select New Character to create a character and optionally assign it to a campaign.
- Select a character card to open its sheet and update its details.
- Open the character menu to duplicate, export, or delete a character you own.
- Use Import to restore a character from a previously exported JSON file.
Quick reference handoff
Open a character and select Quick Reference, or use Quick Reference from the character card's menu. The page is designed so another player can run the character with minimal setup:
- The first visit starts with compact combat stats, ability modifiers, saving throws, spell numbers and slots, prepared spells, features, and up to three suggested actions from the character sheet.
- Current and maximum HP are edited separately, and speed uses a numeric field with its unit shown separately, so these values do not need to be entered as formatted text.
- Use an Add button to open and filter the character's weapons, prepared spells, or features, or create custom entries. Every stat and entry can be edited, reordered, or deleted on the quick-play sheet without changing the main character.
- Add handoff notes for reactions, bonus actions, concentration priorities, tactics, and limited resources.
- Use Update from Character after changing the main sheet to refresh the core identity, HP, AC, speed, initiative, modifiers, saves, spell numbers, and defenses. This does not overwrite chosen actions, features, spells, custom edits, or handoff notes.
- Spell slots use the same filled and empty diamond controls as the main character sheet. Spending or restoring a slot on either sheet saves directly to the character. Both pages refresh their slot counts when revisited, so usage stays synchronized between open character and quick-play tabs.
- Combat-card values, defenses, active effects, conditions, exhaustion, resource and item charges, prepared-state changes, and added or removed spells save immediately on the main character sheet. Custom and imported spells remain private to that character and can be selected for Quick Reference after they are marked prepared.
- Short Rest and Long Rest show a confirmation describing what will be restored before they immediately update the character sheet.
- Prepared spells appear as a compact list. Select a spell name to read or edit its full details.
- Use Print for a clean paper or PDF copy.
The quick-play sheet is saved with the character as a separate handoff snapshot. This lets a player customize it freely and decide when newer character statistics should be pulled in.
A lock icon identifies a private character. Campaign characters are visible according to their sharing and campaign membership.
Spells
The spell library supports finding spells and adding them to character sheets.
- Search by name or description.
- Narrow results by level, school, source, class, casting time, concentration, or ritual.
- Select a column heading to sort the results.
- Select one or more spell checkboxes, choose a character, and use Add Selected to Character.
- Select New Spell to add a spell manually.
Only administrators can import spell collections or bulk-delete spells.
Account and notifications
Use the account menu in the top navigation to manage your sign-in. The notification bell shows campaign and scheduling updates that need your attention.
If a page says you do not have access, verify that you are signed in with the correct account and that an administrator has added you to the relevant campaign.
Install the site as an app
Jasper's Tome is a progressive web app. In a supported browser, use the browser's Install app or Add to Home Screen command. The installed app opens in its own window, but you still need a network connection for features that have not already been cached.
Troubleshooting
- A campaign is missing: ask an administrator to confirm your membership.
- A note cannot be edited: the file may be read-only or owned by another user.
- A wiki link is broken: check that the target note exists and that its name matches the link.
- A character is missing: check whether you are signed in with its owner account or still belong to its campaign.
- Changes do not appear: refresh the page. If the problem continues, sign out and back in before contacting the site administrator.
When reporting a problem, include the page you were using, what you expected, what happened, and any message shown on screen.
